Blitzmax 3d Games
I'm looking to create a Worms / Scorched Earth type of game and I'm looking for a good game engine that can allow me to easily use physics, particle effects, GUIs, and multiplayer (eg. Network support and possibly automatic synchronization). Rosetta stone italian activation code crack mac and cheese. It seems like NO engines exist that support all of those features (they exist for 3D but not for 2D), so I'll have to choose something that comes the closest. Here are the engines I've tried, purchased, or I'm considering: Torque Game Builder - I've purchased this and it's pretty nice except that I can't stand TorqueScript and the physics implementation is wonky. (it uses variable time-based physics and is very unstable) It also doesn't support anything except very basic network support and implementing your own network support means you need to modify the source (advanced C++).
TorqueX - This seems nice but requires a pixel shader model 2.0 graphics card. That means older computers can't play games made with this. BlitzMax - I really like this so far even though the language is a BASIC/C mixture. It doesn't have any physics or particles effects (which is a big minus), but it does allow super-easy displaying of graphics and pixel operations. Game Maker - I originally didn't even bother trying this since 'Drag-and-Drop' game creation seems a [i]little[/b] too simple for me, but after taking a better look at it I've realized it's not that bad. People have created several addons that do 2D physics really well and also particle engines which look awesome, but the engine seems to run a bit slow and doesn't have any GUI support (for creating in-game GUIs). DarkBASIC Professional - This uses a more primitive BASIC language syntax (which I don't like) and it seems like many people have bad things to say about it.
It seems to be aimed primarily at 3D games but it also supports 2D. I've tried creating my own engine in Delphi with SDL and it runs quite slow because it's software-based rendering, and creating my own OpenGL 2D engine doesn't sound like much fun. So does anybody have any recommendations for me? All I really want is to find the fastest and easiest* way to create a multiplayer Worms / Scorched Earth game. (* I realize that there is no 'fast and easy' way to create a game, but I'm looking for the 'fastest' way possible).
If you're a coder you might try XNA Game Studio. It is free (unless you want to distribute.but since you're just trying it out I wouldn't worry about it) and seems pretty robust. You could probably throw together a proof of concept for your game in a couple days. I've played with it a little and it basically takes care of all the 'scaffolding' so you can get right to coding the actual game.
The documentation is pretty complete as well and there is a pretty active community on the XNA forums. The downsides to going this route is the people playing the game would need to have the XNA DLLs and stuff as well as the.NET framework 2.0. It might be a good way to get a proof of concept done so you can decide if any changes need to be made to the design (you do have a design document right?
